I was trying to record a video on the Edge browser and it will not recognize there being a camera or mic. It just says "
We're having trouble connecting to your hardware. Please try using a different browser or switch to a device with built-in hardware capabilities." I have tried everything I can think of to get this to work. I tried using different browsers and the camera and mic work on apps like Zoom.

@lyndamay, Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Community! 🎉
I’m here to help you troubleshoot your issue and get things back on track. Just follow these steps below, and we’ll have you running smoothly in no time:
Check Permissions in Edge:
- Go to Settings > Privacy, Search, and Services > Site Permissions.
- Under Camera and Microphone, ensure Edge has permission to access them.
Clear Browser Cache:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete in a new tab.
- Select Cached images and files, then click Clear now.
Update Edge:
- Go to the three dots in the top-right corner > Help and feedback > About Microsoft Edge.
- Ensure it’s up to date.
Disable Extensions:
- Go to the three dots > Extensions.
- Disable all extensions temporarily to see if they are causing the issue.
Restart Your Computer:
- Restart to refresh all drivers and settings.
Check Device Manager:
- Open Device Manager (type it in the Windows search bar or hold Win + x).
- Check if your camera and mic are working properly (right-click and Update Driver if needed).
Check Edge Settings for Hardware Access:
- Go to the site where you are recording, click the lock icon next to the URL, and ensure that Camera and Microphone permissions are set to Allow.
Try Incognito Mode:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + N to open an incognito window and see if the issue persists.
Try a Different User Profile in Edge:
- Go to Edge settings > Profiles > Add profile.
- Test if a new profile works with the camera and mic.
Check Windows Privacy Settings:
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera and Microphone.
- Ensure both are turned on for apps and Edge.
