Hi, I’m facing an issue with my laptop camera. Whenever I use it—either for taking pictures or during video calls—a light flicker or flash keeps appearing on the screen. It’s not constant, but it happens often enough to be distracting. The other person on the call can also see the flicker, so it’s definitely not just on my end. It’s a light kind of flashing, not a total blackout, but still noticeable. Can you let me know what might be causing this and how much it would cost to fix it?

@AP12342_2, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding camera flickering!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Camera Driver Update:

  • Ensure that your camera drivers are up-to-date. You can check for updates through Device Manager in Windows. Look for "Cameras" or "Imaging devices," right-click your camera, and select "Update driver."

Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Make sure no camera application conflicts are present. If multiple applications try to use the camera simultaneously, it might lead to performance issues. Ensure that only the application you are using is accessing the camera.

Lighting Conditions:

  • Check the environment's lighting conditions. Sometimes insufficient or flickering light can cause the camera to auto-adjust frequently, simulating a flicker effect. Try stabilizing the environment's lighting or using a different light source.

Anti-Flicker Mode:

  • Utilize anti-flicker modes if available in your camera software. Some cameras allow you to set anti-flicker between 50 Hz and 60 Hz, depending on the power grid in your region.

Check Camera Connections:

  • If it's an external camera, ensure all connections are secure. Sometimes loose connections can cause flickering issues.

Background Applications:

  • Close any unnecessary background applications that might be consuming resources and affecting camera performance.

System Updates:

  • Perform a system update to ensure your operating system and applications are running the latest versions.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
