Hi, after doing a factory reset in august since my PC was having problems, my camera won't be detected by the system. I checked device manager (even the hidden devices) and the BIOS, but it doesn't show up. Is it a hardware problem or can I solve it without taking my PC to get fixed? Thanks in advance 🙂

Hi @dieeeexx

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it feels when the camera is not detected at all, especially after you’ve already checked Device Manager and BIOS. Thank you for the steps you’ve tried so far.

Let’s go through a structured set of actions together to see if we can bring the camera back without needing service.

Step 1: Confirm Privacy Settings

  • Go to Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Camera.
  • Ensure Camera access is turned on.
  • Scroll down and confirm that apps such as Zoom or Teams have permission to use the camera.

Guide: HP PCs – Webcam Troubleshooting (Windows 10, 11)

Step 2: Test with Windows Camera App

  • Open the Camera app from the Start menu.
  • If the app does not detect the camera, it confirms the system is not seeing the hardware.

Step 3: Update Drivers

  • Open Device Manager.
  • If the camera does not appear under Cameras or Imaging devices, click Action > Scan for hardware changes.
  • If it appears, right‑click and select Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
  • Restart the laptop after updating.

Step 4: Install Drivers from HP Support

  • Download and install the latest drivers for your Victus 15‑fa1000 model from HP’s support page.
  • Pay attention to the Intel Chipset and Intel Management Engine Interface drivers, as these help Windows detect integrated devices.

Guide: HP Support – Software and Drivers for Victus by HP 15‑fa1000

Step 5: BIOS Update

  • Updating the BIOS can refresh hardware detection.
  • Download the latest BIOS for your model from the same HP support page and install it carefully.

Guide: HP Notebook PCs – Updating the BIOS

Step 6: Power Reset

  • Shut down the laptop completely.
  • Disconnect the power adapter and any external devices.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect and power on again.

Step 7: HP App Diagnostics

  • Install the HP App on your Windows device.
  • Add your laptop and run the hardware diagnostics to check if the camera is detected.

Guide: Install and Use the HP App

By following these steps, you can determine whether the issue is driver or BIOS related before considering hardware service. Starting with driver installation and BIOS update usually helps restore missing devices after a factory reset.
