I have an HP victus gaming laptop that I've had for a few years now. On the bottom it says 15-fa0032dx, and in msinfo32 it says 15-fa0xxx, in case these are relevant (not to be confused with the serial number). I needed to use the camera for an assignment that I'm working on so I tried it in PowerPoint and it couldn't detect the camera, so I tried trouble shooting it in pretty much every way possible and it isn't working. The error code in the camera app is this: "0xA00f4244<NoCamerasAreAttached>". I saw another post that seems to have had the same issue and followed the steps that the admin gave that guy, but nothing worked for me. My laptop doesn't have a switch or button, I checked privacy settings, camera access, and restarting. I checked device manager and found the camera in hidden devices (It was called HP wide vision HD camera), so I tried updating the driver (I didn't seem to have one in the first place so nothing happened), uninstalling and letting window try to auto-reinstall, looking at my BIOS settings, searching for a new driver on the HP page, and pretty much every other option. The HP page doesn't even seem to have camera drivers, so that doesn't work. And of course, if any of these methods worked, I wouldn't be making this post. I went to settings and let windows update run its course, and I checked the HP support assistant and let it update me, but none of the drivers it installed were for the camera. I even tried the diagnostic tool but it found nothing. I've used this camera in the past for zoom interviews, so I know it isn't a matter of it not working or being broken. For whatever reason, the laptop just can't "find" it. What should I do? If I can't figure it out by midnight, I'll just have to take the hit on my grade for not including a video cameo.

I checked the link and its a perfect match for case A in terms of symptoms, but I looked all over my computer and I don't seem to have a physical switch. I considered case B as well but I definitely do not have a camera shutter key (I don't have an F13 and none of the other keys are a camera shutter key). There isn't a slider near the camera itself either so it isn't that. The only conclusion I can draw is that there must be something wrong internally, like a disconnected wire or something, or the issue is software based, since when I uninstalled the driver to let windows auto reinstall it, it never did, but maybe even that is because of the physical issue?

Hi @Rokitur,

Thanks for confirming the symptoms so clearly. Since your HP Victus 15‑fa0032dx camera shows up only under hidden devices and Windows won’t reinstall the driver, please follow the below steps:

Run HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics

Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

Turn on the computer and immediately press esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu is displayed, press the f2 key.

On the main menu, click Component Tests.

The Component Tests menu is displayed.

Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.

Component Tests menu

To run the test, click Webcam Connection, and then click Run once.

If the test fails, it’s hardware. If it passes but Windows still can’t use it, it’s a driver/software issue.

Let me know the results.

I've got the component test menu up but i'm not even seeing the webcam connection button. I've got Processor, Memory, Storage, Power, Audio, Bluetooth Module, Fan, Keyboard, Mouse/Touchpad, Network, System Board, TPM Test, USB Port, and Video. Is it inside one of these, or do I just not have it?

Hi @Rokitur,

Thanks for your response and Thank you for checking and sharing the details with us. On some HP Victus models, the Webcam Connection test may not appear in the UEFI diagnostics menu if the system doesn’t detect the camera hardware at all.

This usually indicates one of two possibilities:

Hardware issue: The webcam module may not be properly connected internally, or it could be faulty. In this case, the system board doesn’t even register the device, which is why the test option is missing.

Driver/firmware issue: If the hardware is fine but Windows fails to load the driver, the camera may only appear under hidden devices in Device Manager.

Here’s what I recommend next:

Update BIOS and chipset drivers: Go to HP Support Assistant or the HP Drivers & Downloads page https://support.hp.com/ for your Victus 15‑fa0032dx and install the latest BIOS and chipset updates.

Check Device Manager again: Under “Imaging devices” or “Cameras,” right‑click the hidden webcam entry, choose “Uninstall device,” then restart. If Windows doesn’t reinstall it, try manually downloading the HP webcam driver package (if available) from the support website.

Run Windows Update: Sometimes the camera driver is bundled with optional updates.

If still missing: Since the UEFI diagnostics don’t list the webcam, this strongly suggests a hardware connection issue. At that point, the best step is to have the laptop inspected by HP service, as the webcam module or its cable may need reseating or replacement.

I hope this helps.
