Hi @andreaswalz,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your HP PC camera is not being detected in applications like Microsoft Teams and is also showing an error or not appearing in the Device Manager, follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
- Check Physical Connections:
- Ensure that the camera is properly connected to your computer. For built-in cameras, this usually means checking hinges and the laptop lid for any physical damage.

- Enable Camera in BIOS:
- Restart your PC and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (commonly accessed by pressing a key like F2, F10, DEL, etc., at startup).
- Ensure the camera is enabled in these settings.
- Update Camera Drivers:
- Visit the Official HP® Printer Drivers and Software Download | HP® Support to download and install the latest drivers for your camera model.
- You can also use Windows Update to check for any available driver updates.
- Check Privacy Settings:
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera, and ensure that camera access is enabled for the device and apps (including Teams).
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera, and ensure that camera access is enabled for the device and apps (including Teams).
- Scan for Hardware Changes:
- In Device Manager, click "Action" > "Scan for hardware changes" to see if Windows can detect the camera.
- In Device Manager, click "Action" > "Scan for hardware changes" to see if Windows can detect the camera.
- Uninstall and Reinstall Camera Driver:
- Navigate to Device Manager, expand "Imaging Devices" (or "Sound, video and game controllers"), right-click the camera, and select "Uninstall device".
- Restart your computer, which should automatically reinstall a fresh driver version.
- Reset the Camera App and Microsoft Teams:
- Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features, find the Camera app, and click "Advanced options". Select Reset.
- Do the same for Microsoft Teams by selecting "Modify" and then "Repair" or "Reset".
- Troubleshoot Hardware Issues:
- Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter by typing "MSDT.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic" in the Run dialog (Win + R).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
