HP Pavilion 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-ec2000 (2P6B3AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a Pavilion notebook model 15-ec2121nr, running Windows 11, about 2 years old.  I want to buy a DLP projector and run it from the notebook.  If I buy a 4K UHD projector (3840x2160p) can this notebook handle running in extended screen mode across the projector & the native 1920x1080 display?  I mostly want this setup for showing photos rather than video.

Hi @Paul_Gillis,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Windows 11, as the operating system, is generally capable of handling extended displays with different resolutions. To set up an extended display, you can follow these steps.

  1. Connect your 4K UHD projector to your laptop using the appropriate cable (such as HDMI or DisplayPort).
  2. Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings."
  3. In the Display settings, you should see both your laptop display and the projector display. You can arrange them in the desired configuration (e.g., extend the display).

Since your laptop has a native resolution of 1920x1080p and you want to extend the display to a 4K UHD projector (3840x2160p), Windows should be able to handle this setup. However, keep in mind that running a display at a higher resolution might impact performance, especially when dealing with graphics-intensive tasks.

For showing photos, the impact on performance should be minimal compared to video playback. Just ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date, as updated drivers can sometimes improve compatibility and performance.

In summary, your Pavilion notebook should be able to handle an extended display setup with a 4K UHD projector for photo viewing purposes. Connect the projector, adjust the display settings in Windows 11, and you should be good to go.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
