HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13-ae0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello HP Community!

I'm new here 🙂

The Device I'm using is the German Version of the:

HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13-ae0xx

Product number : 2PS31EA#ABD

Skip this paragraph if you don't care about the background: I bought it about a year ago and I'm not happy with my choice and one of the reasons why is because I discovered only months later that not all Models, had the Privacy Screen Feature, but the same price which pissed me off completely. And mine was one that was missing out. The Model/Product Numbers are very confusing and they made a lot of advertising for this feature and it was well received so I just bought the latest model in the Store at that time.

So my Problem or Question is if I could just order the Screen Part of a Model that has the Privacy Screen Feature and just replace it with my current display which does not have it and upgrade it. The Parts are not that expensive and I would definitely be able to replace it my own. I just don't know if they're compatible. Of course, the function keys to start the Privacy Mode would be laid out wrong but that's not a problem for me if it works.

I found this Manual and on page 16 in Chapter 3 it lists the components needed.

@LeinadR

Yes you can, please fo to page 17 to get the right part #. I believe all parts with prefix L are not available to buy now BUT you can ask  an  HP authorized service providers to do the work for you.

Regards.

Thank you very much @Banhein for your reply! I have one last question. Will the fn+F1 Button with the question mark logo turn the private screen on and off right away? Isn't there a driver or something that that needs to be installed? How does the Laptop know that it has to turn the right pixels off to cause the privacy effect? Because what the button does now is just opening a browser, so how is it going to "remap" itself? Or is it detecting the newly connected display automatically and starts working? like plug and play?
