HP 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-cp0000 (2Q7W8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I am trying to connect two display monitors to my hp 17"-cp0700dx lap top.  When I go into display settings/multiple displays and select "Detect other display", it comes back and says "We didn't detect another display".  I have one display plugged directly into the laptop via the hdmi port.  I have tried plugging the second display into a multiport adapter with a 2nd hdmi port.  I have also bought a 2nd adapter and tried plugging the second display in using a display port, but nothing works.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is only one video port, #2

The USB ports on this laptop cannot transfer video.

I assume you want all 3 displays to be different.

You can attach one monitor to #3 HDMI easily

You can add an additional display by either projecting over WiFi or using a USB adapter.

You can project your laptop to any WiFi enabled system such as TV or Monitor with WiFi adapter
Some TV are smart but others need a dongle such as ROKU or Microsoft.

If you get a USB adapter be sure to read the reviews. Do not get an adapter that mentions thunderbolt as that means your laptop needs to have a thunderbolt port.  Your USB-C port is NOT thunderbolt.

Note that WiFi will lag. A USB2/3 adapter will also lag but not as bad as WiFi.

Thank you for the information.  And yes, I do want all 3 displays to be different.  I had used a USB-C multiport adapter (with two USB ports, a hdmi port, a USB-C port, a CATV port, and a hdmi port), and plugged into the hdmi port, but it did mention thunderbolt.  I also tried using a USB-C port to display port adapter, plugged into a display port to hdmi adapter, and then plugged into the additional display, but that did not work either.  How would I connect a USB2/3 adapter?

It just plugs into the USB2 or USB3 port and has HDMI

Anyone of the ones l gave the amazon link to.  Just make sure it is USB2 or 3 and not C or thunderbird

check reviews also.

There is a limit on how many displays you can have and it is a function of refresh, resolution, color depth and bandwidth

There needs to be enough video memory to hold icons for 3 screen.  That can be a problem for laptops as the video memory is small or shared with the cpu.

Lag is only a problem for games

If you have a smart TV or roku then enter the windows key plus "p" and the tv or roku will show up and you can project to it.

----
This link here gives instructions on adding a laptop to desktop as a monitor or vice-versa using Wi-Fi
Android can also do this as shown here
Once you are projecting on the screen you can select "mirror" or "extend"

This will either duplicate the screen or give you a second display.
Note that WiFi will lag. A USB2/3 adapter will also lag but not as bad as WiFi.
You would not want to project a game to a larger monitor using WiFi but it would work nicely for web browsing, Office apps or anything other than a first-person-shooter game.

If you get a USB adapter be sure to read the reviews. Do not get an adapter that mentions thunderbolt as that means your laptop needs to have a thunderbolt port.

Even playing solitaire on laptop the wifi lag to a tv is unbelieve slow yet a movie or podcat works fine.

Hi.

I just posted a similar question for what I suspect is a very similar model (17-cn2070cl) laptop.

Were you successful in connecting two external monitors to your laptop and do you now have 3 working monitors including the one on the laptop?  If so, what solution did you use?

Thanks in advance!
