HP Mini, Serial No: 5CD2062HT9, Product: A8V8IEA#ACQ
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

I upgraded to windows 8.1 Pro and since then, my brightness adjustment stopped function. I would see the bars moving, when I press the key, my screen brightness won't reduce. It remained on 100% and this is making me lose about 3 hours battery power. I've tried many suggested solutions, like uninstalling and reinstalling the display adapter, enabling the PNP monitor even doing some registry modifications, yet nothing has changed. Can't find DisplayScalingSupported and the KMD... keys in the registry.

Pls, help.

Thanks.

Hi:

There is only a W7 32 bit graphics driver for your model notebook, so you will have to see if manually installing the driver works.

First, download and install this free file utility.  The first link at the top of the page is for 32 bit operating systems.

https://www.7-zip.org/

Next, download and save but do not run this W7 Intel graphics driver from your notebook's support page.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58001-58500/sp58200.exe

After you have save the graphics driver file, right click on it and select 7-Zip from the list of items on the menu.

Have 7-Zip Extract to:  and let it extract the file into its folder name (sp58200).

Once that has completed, go to the device manager, click to expand the Display Adapters device manager category.

Click on the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter listed there.   Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and then at the bottom of that window, select the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

Click on Have Disk, and browse to the driver folder that 7-Zip created>Graphics>kit46118 (setup information file), click Next and the driver should install.

Then restart the PC, and the graphics should be working normally.
