HP Laptop PC 15-dw3008nj
Microsoft Windows 11

I have an HP laptop (15-dwxxxx), with 1 USB-C port. I also have an external monitor, and a docking station and I connect the two with a DP cable. When I connect my laptop to the docking station (through the aforementioned port) it doesn't work and the monitor doesn't receive the expected signal.

My suspicion is that my usb-C port doesn't support DP signal, but that leads to my question - how can I connect my laptop to the monitor properly? Is it impossible to do through the docking station, given that I only have 1 usb-c port?

Thank you.

The specs of your machine is

             https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c07029953

It ONLY has 1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 5Gbps signaling rate port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to

  • Charge your machine,
  • Connect to an external monitor with/without hub/dock/adapter

If you wish to connect 2 external monitors (only), you can use

  • Monitor 1: HDMI direct cable,
  • Monitor 2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as

                                     USB to HDMI Adapter

For more connectivity, please use

                         True Universal Docking Stations

Hi, thanks.

I'm not sure that I understood the 'true universal docking station' solution. I already have a docking station connected to my USB port, but as you said, the port itself isn't suitable for display and power, and I have only one port on my laptop. So I fail to see how a universal docking station should help.

Thanks!

DisplayLink Certified docks will give to connect to more monitors (2, 3 or more depending on your input) and normal USB connections but they won't charge your machine.

Hope this makes sense.
