Hi @KevinK21,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're having trouble disabling the touchpad on your HP laptop and the online instructions don't provide the necessary options, there are a few alternative methods you can try.
Keyboard Shortcut: Many laptops have a dedicated key or a combination of keys that can be used to enable or disable the touchpad. Look for a key with an icon that resembles a touchpad, usually located in the top row of function keys (F1-F12). Pressing the key in combination with the Fn key (usually located near the bottom left of the keyboard) may toggle the touchpad on or off.
Device Settings: You can try accessing the touchpad settings directly through the Windows Control Panel. Follow these steps.
- Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Type "control" (without quotes) and press Enter to open the Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel, select "Hardware and Sound" and then click on "Mouse" (or "Mouse and touchpad").
- Look for a tab or settings related to the touchpad. Depending on your laptop model and the installed drivers, you may find an option to disable or enable the touchpad from here.
Device Manager: Another way to disable the touchpad is through the Device Manager. Here's how.
- Right-click on the Start menu button and select "Device Manager" from the context menu.
- In the Device Manager window, expand the "Mice and other pointing devices" category.
- Right-click on your touchpad device (it might have a name such as "Synaptics Touchpad" or "Elan Touchpad") and select "Disable" or "Disable device." This should temporarily disable the touchpad.
If none of these methods work or if the touchpad re-enables itself after a restart, it's possible that your laptop's touchpad driver is overriding the settings
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
