Hi all,
I'm not able to connect 2 external monitors with my laptop's USB-type C port via a Multi-port hub.
I read many posts here and understood that my laptop's USB-C port does not support DisplayPort/Alt mode as per the product sepcs below:
External ports | 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C™ (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate); 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A (Data Transfer Only); 1 AC smart pin; 1 HDMI 1.4b; 1 headphone/microphone combo |
My laptop is HP Notebook 15-dy1003ca.
Can anyone PLEASE suggest what options do I have ?
I read about USB-type A to HDMI Adapter (instead oif typeC). Can that work if USB-type C is not compatible ?
Thanks
Manu

A1. It works as USB 3.0 type A
A2. ditto
A3. Yes. You need to enter what you want, it will search for you a list of right docks

Its apecs
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06617025
It ONLY has 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C™ (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate) port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to
- Charge your machine,
- Connect to an external monitor with/without hub/dock/adapter
If you wish to connect 2 external monitors (only), you can use
- Monitor 1: HDMI direct cable,
- Monitor 2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as
For more connectivity, please use
True Universal Docking Stations

Thanks a lot @Banhien for the quick reply.
Though it's disheartening to know, at least I know it now and will stop shooting arrows in the dark.
I explored the options you suggested.
Quick questions:
1). My USB-type A port supports only Data Transfer like type C port does.
So, will the option that you listed for Monitor-2 (DisplayLink certified Adapter) be compatible to extend the display?
2). USB-A to HDMI Adapter's 'Product description' says:
"Attention Please: This USB 3.0 Adapter NOT compatible with USB 2.0!"
I'm confused as to whether both of laptop's USB-type A ports are 2.0 or 3.0.
HP site says "2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A". Does that mean 3.0?
But, shouldn't the color of the port inside be Blue if it's 3.0? as mine is Grey for both type-A.
3). As you suggested 'Universal Docking Stations' for more connectivity, can I use any of its options to connect more than 2 external monitors?
I just browsed the options and got overwhelmed with the new information all around.
Can you please help me out here?
