Hi @Brett841
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I understand the HDMI port on your laptop is not working.
Did you connect this computer to another external TV or screen to it and check if it works?
Did you try multiple HDMI cables?
For now please try these steps:
Check the basics:
- Ensure that both your laptop and the external monitor are powered on.
- Confirm that the HDMI cable is securely connected to both the laptop and the external monitor.
- Try a different HDMI port on the laptop, if available.
Update Graphics Drivers:
- Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can cause display issues. Make sure your graphics drivers are up-to-date. You can do this through the device manager or by visiting the official website of the graphics card manufacturer.
Restart your Laptop:
- Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connection issues.
Check Display Settings:
- Right-click on the desktop and select "Display Settings." Ensure that the external monitor is recognized and configured correctly.
- Try detecting the external monitor using the "Detect" button in the display settings.
Try a Different Cable:
- Even if you've already changed the HDMI cable, try another one to rule out the possibility of a faulty cable.
Check for Physical Damage:
- Inspect the HDMI port on your laptop for any physical damage. If you notice any bent pins or other issues, it might be a hardware problem.
BIOS/UEFI Settings:
- Some laptops have settings in the BIOS/UEFI that control external displays. Access the BIOS/UEFI during the startup (usually by pressing a specific key, such as F2 or Del) and check for display-related settings.
Rollback Graphics Driver Update:
- If you recently updated your graphics driver and the issue started afterward, consider rolling back the driver to the previous version.
Try Safe Mode:
- Boot your laptop into Safe Mode and check if the external monitor works. If it does, it could indicate a software conflict or driver issue.
Check with Another Device:
- Connect the external monitor to another device (if possible) to ensure that the monitor itself is not the problem.
System Restore:
- If the issue started recently and you can identify a point when the external monitor was working correctly, you might consider using System Restore to revert your system to that point.
By systematically going through these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue.
If this solution hit the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
