I have an HP Pavilion laptop and for some reason, the Touch Pad became activated. I do not want it since I use a wireless mouse just fine. I did some of the fixes I see online but none of them worked. Any ideas?

All of a sudden the other day, my Touchpad and backlighting became active. I do not want the Touchpad to be active, I have a wireless mouse that works fine. My hands sometimes grazes the Touchpad that creates crazy things that I just don't want. It never worked before and wonder if it is tied to a Windows update? I did try every fix I could find, but none worked. Help!

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
- Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
- Have you made any hardware/software changes?
- What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824

Thanks for replying to my problem. When I did not hear back from HP, I had to bite the bullet and go to HP warranty folks since my one year warranty was up July 20. i was lucky that the guy in Kolkata was easy to work with and fixed my problem. It is similar to what you suggested, but he had me disable Elan, and gave me a Desktop Icon in case it happens again. So far, it is working and he will check with me tomorrow. thanks again. George
