Troubleshooting black screen issues on HP Notebooks: Click here to view the instructions!

I have a 6-month old HP laptop using Windows 11, I want to use my HP27m monitor as the main display. I have already done this combo for a long time (but using an older Pavilion laptop and Windows 10), but now I cannot get the laptop to recognize the HP 27m.

Hi @MBDick,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP laptop running Windows 11 is not detecting your HP 27m monitor, even though this setup worked fine before. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check Cable Connection
Ensure the HDMI or DisplayPort cable is securely connected to both your HP laptop and the HP 27m monitor.
Try unplugging and reconnecting the cable, or using a different cable or port if available.

Power Cycle Devices
Turn off both the laptop and monitor.
Unplug the monitor’s power cord for 30 seconds, then reconnect and power everything back on.

Select Correct Input Source on Monitor
On the HP 27m monitor, press the Input/Source button (often labeled as “Input” or with an icon).
Make sure the input is set to the correct port, such as HDMI 1, HDMI 2, or DisplayPort, depending on your connection type.

Detect Display in Windows Settings
On your laptop, go to Settings → System → Display.
Scroll down and click Detect under “Multiple displays.”
If detected, choose Extend or Duplicate to set the display mode you want.

Update or Reinstall Graphics Drivers
Right-click the Start button → select Device Manager → expand Display adapters.
Right-click your graphics driver and select Update driver → Search automatically for drivers.
If it still doesn’t detect, choose Uninstall device, then restart your laptop to reinstall the driver automatically.

Check Display Adapter (if using HDMI hub or converter)
If your laptop uses a USB-C to HDMI adapter or docking station, test with a direct HDMI connection to rule out adapter failure.
You can also test the adapter with another device or monitor to confirm it’s working.

I hope this helps.
