HP Notebook 15s
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi!

I just bought my HP laptop (HP Notebook 15s-fq1012tu) about a week. At first, it was able to use fingerprint login.

(I used Windows 10 Home edition-Single language which include in the laptop from the start)

But after I update my windows is stated that Window Hello Fingerprint ---This option is currently unavailable. (Now it's OS build 1909)

I followed the direction in other post like...

- use gpedit.msc and enable biometric logon---doesn't work

-  uninstall biometric drivers from device manager---after uninstall and scan for hardware change now it doesn't show in anywhere else. T^T so I restore the recovery before update the properties in biometric drivers said that Hardware device is not connected (code 45)

-  install driver from HP software and drivers download---after install it said that The driver is not support on this OS version. it's said that v1903 so I think it's not the same version with me right?

If anyone has other option to try on please let me know. I'll appreciate to try on.

Best,

gpedit options are supported in the Windows "Pro" version of the OS.

The fingerprint driver is likely OK for your Windows V1909.  Not guaranteed - but many of the most recent  fingerprint drivers have survived the recent upheaval caused by the upgrade to Windows V1909.

Depending on how long ago your computer was built (manufactured as opposed to purchased), it may be necessary to update your HP Software and Drivers, and / or (done separately) the BIOS.

I can offer the following ideas...

Try / Consider

==============================================================

Windows PIN

Reminder:  Windows Fingerprint logon requires that you have your Windows PIN set up before you can use fingerprint logon.

You may already have a Windows PIN login set up and ready to go.  Should there be a problem with the PIN, in most cases, you will receive a notice from Windows that there is an issue - you can then reset the PIN as needed.

==============================================================

HP Software and Drivers - "Other"

If you have not done so, Check and Updates for other than the

  1. BIOS for your computer
  2. Fingerprint driver
  3. Client Security Software (applicable only to Business class machines, this software is updated last)

If you update any software / drivers, Restart the computer and log in

==============================================================

BIOS Update

If you have not done so, that is if you are not on the latest version of BIOS for your computer,

Update the BIOS

Check Current BIOS version

Control Panel > icon view > Administrative Tools > System Information

System Summary - Check the information next to BIOS Version / Date

  • Back up all your most critical / sensitive files to other than on the computer.  For example, copy the files to your Cloud backup. to a USB stick, "Somewhere" you can access the files should the computer become unavailable.
  •  Connect the computer to AC power and LEAVE it connected to AC power until the BIOS is completely loaded.
  • Download-Save the BIOS update file to your computer
  • READ all information available on the BIOS page before you update.
  • Stop all other programs (email, games, web browsers, etc)
  • When you are satisfied it is safe to continue, Install the BIOS

Reminder – Manually Update the BIOS

How to install BIOS Updates:

Always connect the computer to AC Power and leave the power connected during the entire BIOS update procedure.

Select the option to manually install the BIOS update.

==============================================================

Fingerprint Driver

  • Download and Save the fingerprint reader driver to your computer
  • In the Device Manager > Biometrics, add the step in the Uninstall to include the Delete  of the existing fingerprint driver
  • Restart the computer
  • Log in using your password or PIN
  • Open File Explorer
  • Navigate to the folder in which you saved the installation package (likely Downloads)
  • Right-Click on the installation package and "Run as Administrator" to install the software
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Your fingerprint driver:

@Dragon-fur I update BIOS as you ask and reinstall driver from the list you gave me.

But it still said that the driver is not supported on this os version

Thanks for your tips anyway. I might wait for the new update driver.

Well, Rats.  Technical term meaning, "Disappointing"...  🐀

I cannot duplicate the error; my Zbook upgraded to V1909 without any real issues:

The only thing I had to do was reload the printer software (obviously not to get the fingerprint reader to work).
I had, deliberately, updated (as much as possible) my software and drivers just prior to running the Update to install the upgrade to V1909.  I rather suspect this has nothing whatsoever to do with your situation:  different hardware, different fingerprint reader, and likely a vastly different condition of "general" Windows bits.

Check back on occasion - your computer Software and Driver Website will update when there is a new driver released.

Meanwhile, if I find anything that might be useful, I will post back.
