Microsoft Windows 11

Can't change my refresh rate to 144Hz after getting my laptop reset. Stuck at 64Hz. Tried every possible tutorial I could find, update every driver, troubleshoot, etc. but didn't fix it. Before the reset I could change it to any available refresh rate. Anyone else had the same issue and solved it?

Hi @Solunyx,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already tried a lot of troubleshooting steps, which is good. Since you've updated drivers and tried various tutorials without success, let's explore a few more possibilities.

Check for BIOS Update: Sometimes, BIOS updates can affect display settings. Check if there's a BIOS update available for your Victus by HP laptop. If there is, proceed with caution and follow the HP instructions.

Windows Display Settings: Go to your Windows Display settings to see if you can manually set the refresh rate there.

  • Right-click on your desktop and select "Display Settings."
  • Scroll down and click on "Advanced Display Settings."
  • Under "Refresh rate," see if 144Hz is listed. If it is, select it.
  • If it's not there, click on "Display adapter properties for Display 1" (or the appropriate display if you have multiple).
  • In the new window, go to the "Monitor" tab and see if 144Hz is listed in the drop-down menu. If it is, select it and click "Apply."

NVIDIA/AMD Control Panel:

  • If you have an NVIDIA GPU, right-click on your desktop and select "NVIDIA Control Panel."
  • Under "Display," select "Change resolution."
  • Check if 144Hz is available under "Refresh rate."
  • If you have an AMD GPU, the process is similar but through the AMD Radeon Software.

Custom Resolution Utility (CRU): This tool allows you to create custom resolutions and refresh rates. It's a bit more advanced:

  • Download and run CRU.
  • Click on "Add" under the "Detailed resolutions" section.
  • Set your desired resolution and refresh rate (144Hz).
  • Click "OK" and restart your computer.
  • After restarting, check your display settings again to see if the custom resolution is available.

HDMI/DisplayPort Cable: Ensure you're using a cable that supports 144Hz. HDMI cables, for example, need to be HDMI 2.0 or higher for 1080p 144Hz.

Rollback Graphics Driver: If you recently updated your graphics driver, try rolling it back to a previous version to see if that resolves the issue.

Remember, changing display settings and drivers can sometimes require a restart to take effect. After each change, restart your laptop and check the settings again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
