Please help!   I work for a school district and we have 600 Chromebooks.  We have had an issue with the screen suddenly going dark on them, and we really need to be able to fix it.  You can see the display, but it is VERY dim.   I have tried the following to fix this issue without any luck:  new screen, powerwash, and reinstalled OS from external drive.  None of these have worked.   I have replaced the motherboard on a few of them, and that sometimes works, but not always.  I hate having to replace motherboards on Chromebooks that are just over one year old.

Can anyone please tell me what the issue is here, and how we can fix it?  I'm desperate at this point.

Thank you in advance!

I too have been experiencing this same issue and having the same results to repairs as rpMichigan is having!!  Has there been a solid resolution to this yet?

Thank you!

Hi VP_Man,

HP escalated this issue several times and told me they were looking into it.  THey never came up with a resolution, other than to tell me that we should just replace the Chromebooks, at our school district's expense.   We don't have the money to do so, nor should we be expected to replace them.  We now have about 10-15 Chromebooks with dark screens that our school district can't repair, and are no longer under warranty .  We've only had these devices for a year and a half.

The only thing I've found that *may* work is to try replacing the motherboard.  I've read online that this issue may be due to a faulty fuse on the logic board that causes the sceen to go dark.
