My HP Chromebook x360 (14c-ca0053dx) has suddenly started having an issue which has switched the responses to folding the screen. When I fold the screen back to use tablet mode, the screen turns off and the laptop goes into sleep mode as if it was being closed, and when I close the laptop, instead of going into sleep mode, it goes into tablet mode. What can I do to reset this back to normal?

Hi @Mobbs1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Chromebook x360 is having trouble correctly interpreting its hinge and lid positions. This issue can often be caused by a malfunctioning or misconfigured sensor or a software issue. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem.
Restart Your Chromebook
- Power Off: Completely shut down your Chromebook.
- Power On: Turn it back on after a few seconds.
Check for Software Updates
- Go to Settings > About Chrome OS > Check for Updates and install any available updates.
Reset Chrome OS
- Factory Reset (Powerwash):
- Back up any important data as this will erase all local data.
- Go to Settings > Advanced > Reset settings > Powerwash > Restart.
- Follow the prompts to complete the reset.
Check Lid Sensor Settings
- Sometimes, a misconfiguration or software glitch affects the lid sensor behavior. Unfortunately, Chromebooks don’t have many settings for lid sensor behavior, but you can verify your settings in the Settings menu.
Perform a Hard Reset
- Hard Reset:
- Turn off your Chromebook.
- Press and hold the Refresh key (a circular arrow) and the Power button simultaneously.
- Release both keys when the Chromebook starts up.
Update Chrome OS
- Ensure you are on the latest version of Chrome OS, as updates often fix bugs and issues.
Inspect Hardware
- Check if there’s any visible damage to the hinges or if there might be something obstructing the sensors.
Trying these steps should help resolve the issue with your Chromebook x360's screen orientation behavior.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
