Hi All,

We just got this laptop and are having a problem with Cleartype. I've searched this forum and not found a similar problem/solution.

By default, out of the box, Cleartype was not turned on. When I turn it on and choose the various settings and click Finish, it sets it for the session. But after a restart, Cleartype is back to being turned off. I've gone through this process probably half a dozen times. It just won't stick.

I haven't made any changes to the configuration, just installed Office 365 a printer, Chrome, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary.

The laptop is not on a domain (so no group policy). The user is an admin (not using a Microsoft account to login).

In the registry, the cleartype keys retain their values after the restart but clearly (LOL) are not having any effect.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Update:

I've spent several hours on this so far. First a long chat with HP "support" who basically told me that they don't offer that kind of techical support and that I needed to buy a service contract. Pretty outrageous for a brand new, high end laptop, that's not working properly right out of the box.

Then a long chat with Microsoft support, trying various things. They suggested contacting HP...

I'm debating returning it if I can't find a solution. I have numerous Win 10 PCs, various brands, including HP, and all of the ones I've checked have ClearType on (must be by default because I don't remember having to turn it on).

FWIW, I started over with a clean install of Win 10 and problem solved. Must have been something in the bloatware...
