Hi, I recently bought a Sony Smart TV and would like to connect it with my laptop wirelessly. I have Googled how to do this but my laptop keeps popping up with no 'no devices/displays detected'. I have updated my laptop but still unable to connect. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Yes it will work but so will an HDMI cable if your laptop has an output HDMI connector. The cable would connect to the same HDMI on the TV set as the Microsoft adapter. That adapter needs USB power. Some TVs do not have USB ports and a USB power block is needed. Same for Roku, If you want to use a smartphone or tablet the roku is better.

What does windows show when you try to connect? Does the TV show a connection attempt?
press the WIN key and the letter P
click on "more display settings"
expand "multiple displays" and
click the "connect" to a wireless display
Make sure the TV is on. Possibly you need to turn off "cable" so the TV is not busy or stuck watching soap operas.
Look for your Sony TV
I cannot connect to my LG from my Windows 11 but my Android tablet can connect.
All the Roku connect from Windows just fine. My LG is an old model and possibly the encryption codex is not blessed by Microsoft.
Does the Sony show up? What happens if you connect? You should see a message such as "miracast" or "Intel Wi-Fi" or "RealTek" connecting
What exact model Sony?

Hi, thanks for your reply. I've followed your instructions but it still saying 'no display available'. The TV doesn't show a connection attempt and I have my Bluetooth and WIFI switched on. Mine has Cast connecting like your screenshot. It's a Sony Bravia HD Ready

You may have a problem as the more recent Bravia TVs do not support Miracast.

You need an adapter.
Microsoft has one but it is good for Windows only. It can be used on an external HDMI monitor but does not do netflix or amazon prime as it is good only to show a second or mirror window.
Roku supports Apple, Windows and OS like Linux as well

They show a lot of cable and tv channels but all those feature need to be subscribed to. Any tablet, iphone, android or windows system with Wi-Fi can cast it. Mirror or as a second or 3rd display.

Sure! Have you tried using a feature like screen mirroring or casting on your Sony Smart TV? Often, it requires both the TV and the laptop to be on the same Wi-Fi network. Ensure that your laptop's Wi-Fi is enabled and connected to the same network as your TV. Then, on your TV, look for options like "Screen Mirroring" or "Cast" and select your laptop from the list of available devices. This should enable you to wirelessly connect your laptop to your smart TV. If you're using Loklok on your smart TV , this wireless connection can make sharing doodles and notes between devices even more convenient. Give it a try and see if it works for you!
