Connecting an HP external monitor W2072a to my HP Envy x360 laptop (Intel Iris Xe Graphics), i get the message "Input Signal Out of Range, Change Settings to 1600X900 - Hz." I changed those settings via Advanced Display Settings for the external monitor recognized in Display Settings on my laptop, but the issue was not resolved.
The external monitor works perfectly with an old HP Pavillion Notebook PC.
Any ideas that might help would be appreciated.

Yes, it is an old monitor.
My Envy:
HP ENVY x360 Convertible Laptop - 15t-es000 touch (4V392AV_1)
I purchased an Ativa HDMI to VGA Pigtail Adapter to connect the old monitor to my new Envy laptop, but I am unable to resolve the Input Signal Out of Range error message.
I might just buy a new monitor. Would the following one be compatible with my new Envy:
HP V22v 21.45 Full HD LED Monitor 450M3AAABA - Office Depot
It looks like the signal resolution and refresh rate would be compatible, but i'm not that tech savvy to be certain.
Thanks much for your help.
