I would like to connect an external monitor to my HP Pavilion g7 laptop so that I can have 2 screens to work on. I have an old Gateway FPD1975W HD Display monitor (from 2007!) which does not appear to work with the laptop. The monitor appears to be detected by the laptop but nothing displays (the screen does not even light up). Do I need a driver for the Gateway monitor? Should I get a newer monitor? If so, any recommendations?
Thanks for your help and suggestions.

.
- Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
- Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
