Given nothing wrong with your monitor HDMI to DVI is digital to digital. You can use a direct cable, no need an adapter. For example

From HDMI (digital) to VGA (analog) you need a proper converter.  Do you use a right converter ? What is it ?

Thanks for answering.

The adapter that I used is from Dell

  • Dell:
    • Manufacturer Part KF3P2
    • Dell Part 470-ABZX

I tried with this adapter connecting it to my tv and it worked but when I tried to connect it to the monitor it didn't work.

The Dell adapter is OK. It must be something wrong with your monitor. Have you check it with a NATIVE VGA to VGA ? Can your machine DETECT the monitor ? Please try

(a) Hold down Win key then press letter I,

(b) Select System,

(c) Click Detect

My laptop does not have VGA port, that's  why I tried with the adapter. And I was thinking of buying an hdmi to dvi-d adapter but I do not know if that would work.
