Pavilion 15
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I'm trying to resolve a disk thrashing issue with this aging Pavilion 15. Having searched many Blogs and the HP Boards I'vde discovered that it may come down to a Video Driver issue. The Laptop came with Windows 8 installed.
Windows 10 has installed a Generic PnP Monitor driver, I have tried to uninstall and re-install a different one but it keeps coming back the the same driver, I have also removed and reinstalled the Display Adapter Driver, again Windows10 picks up a generic Intel HD Graphics Family Driver.

Text is also blotchy and slightly unpleasant to read, so I'm sure a different driver may resolve this issue to.

Any suggestions on suitable HP Drivers to be used please?

Hi:

The product specs for your notebook indicate that it came with W8.1 64 bit.

Here is a way that you can manually update the Intel graphics driver to the latest version from the Intel site...

First, create a system restore point so that you can roll back to the current graphics driver you have installed, just in case the updated driver does not work to your expectations.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4027538/windows-create-a-system-restore-point

Next, download and save the Intel HD graphics driver 64 bit ZIP file from the link below (3rd one down on the left).

This is the latest driver as of 23/05/2021:  15.40.48.5171

Download Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows* [15.40]

Unzip the graphics driver file to its folder. Do not do anything with the files in the folder.

To unzip the file, right click on the graphics driver zip file you downloaded, and select Extract All.

Go to the device manager, click to expand the Display Adapters device manager category

Click on the Intel HD graphics adapter listed there.

Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and then at the bottom of that window, select the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

Click on Have Disk, and browse to the unzipped graphics driver folder>Graphics>igdlh64 (setup information file), click Next, and the driver should install.

Be patient, as it can take a few minutes for the driver to completely install.

When the installation is finished, restart the PC.

To update the Intel HDMI audio driver to the latest version, go to the device manager, click to expand the Sound, video and game controllers device manager category.

Click on the Intel HD audio device listed there.   Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the unzipped Intel graphics driver main folder.

Make sure the Include subfolders box is checked, and the driver will install.

Then restart the PC.

If you install the Intel® Driver & Support Assistant (Intel® DSA), after you manually install the driver, it should in the future, automatically install the latest graphics and HDMI audio drivers without having to do the manual install.

Hi:

All laptop displays are labeled as a Generic PnP Monitor.  There are no specific drivers for any display panels.

What is the full model number or product number of your notebook?

Use this guide to find that information...please do not post the serial number.

Hi Paul

Sorry it's taken so long for me to reply.

I've applied everything that you have suggested and I have been able to install the Video drivers successfully.

The quality of characters on the screen has improved and the disk thrashing has all but stopped. I therefore consider this issue resolved.

Thank you so much for your help with this.

Kind regards and please Stay Safe
