Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

Hi, I have used Skype without any problem for years but during my last conversation, the webcam suddenly stopped working and I now have something called "Cyberlink Youcam Splitter", with a black image which is reversed : I can read it backwards saying "Cyberlink youCam 5 - Please, start the webcam" but nothing happens when I click on it.

What happened with the usual webcam, which had always worked perfectly, and how can I fix that. Thanks for your help.

Hi Barachiel,

Thank you for your response. I did not dare to uninstall the Cyberlink Webcam but I had also sent them a message and now, for some reason, my webcam seems to work again on Skype... Don't know if it was a temporary problem for them or what they did, but hopefully it will continue working.

As you are a HP employee, I want to tell you that I called HP tech support on Wednesday morning about this problem on my brand new HP2x Detachable. I got a guy in India who took control of my computer : not only he did not fix the camera problem but now the microphone doesn't work on my 2x detachable.

This guy mentioned McAffee and he wanted me to buy it (I was still in the trial period). He insisted a lot for me to give him my credit card number, saying that it was very difficult to install and I would need his help. I was quite reluctant to give him this personal information, so I told him I would do it by myself. We ended the call and I thought that he no longer had control on my computer.

A few hours later, I got an email saying that a connection had just been made with my user ID on my Yahoo account from a computer in India !!! Scary ! I mmediately changed all my passwords from my HP Pavillion and called back the customer service to report the problem (unfortunately, I got people in India again and they did not help me).

I think this is a very serious problem : we customers trust the honesty and reliability of the tech support people, who can control our computers when we call for help, and we don't want them to take advantage of that to access personal information, like e-mails accounts or else.
