Hey Drex24,

Please see the following guide to find your notebooks model number: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

DirectX support is included in the drivers for the graphics card and in the Windows operating system. This is not something you need to manually install.

Each game should have an option under Audio settings for sound output. This lets you choose HDMI output, Digital Output, Speakers, etc.. Which do you currently have it set to? The game should also have an option to select the version of DirectX it is running in the graphics setting of the game. If the option is not there it would indicate it only runs on one specific version, and depends on the game. You can find which version the game uses listed in the minimum system requirements for the game in most cases.

There was a release made in June of 2010 for the full runtime environment of DirectX APIs but was released for operating systems available at that time and does not feature support for Windows 8.1. You can attempt to install it here: DirectX Software Development Kit.

Additionally, make sure your operating system has the most recent updates. Windows Update: Frequently Asked Questions.

Let me know if this helps. Smiley Happy

Hello @Drex24 ,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand you're having issues with sound output on your notebook.

Can you please tell me which notebook you have and what operating system you are using? For information on finding your product and model numbers click here: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? To see which version of Windows you are using click here: Which Windows operating system am I running?

Which type of sound output are you using? Internal speakers, HDMI output, headphones, or external speakers?

Downloading DirectX 9.0c is not necessary. It's built in to the drivers for your GPU.

Can you tell me which sound output options you have in the games audio settings? I've read a large number of posts about Prototype sound quality and a common consensus suggests turning up the quality of your sound output for the respective output device. (Ie Speakers or HDMI) If you right click your speaker icon in the system tray and select Playback devices you should be able to select the output device you're using and select Properties. In properties go to the Advanced tab and change the drop down to the highest quality setting.

I will need a lot more information about what options you have available, which notebook you have, which operating system, the sound output type you are using and which DirectX version you are running the game in to really help you best,

I look forward to your reply! Smiley Happy

Hey Drex24,

Can you tell me which sound output options you have in the games audio settings?

Did you try my suggestion about turning up the sound quality settings?

Can you also tell me the exact model notebook you have? For information on finding your product and model numbers click here: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

You mentioned your DirectX version is 11, but are you running the game in DirectX 11 mode or DirectX 9?

Have you tried updating the drivers for your soundcard? If not you can do this here: HP - Drivers & Downloads.

Thanks! Smiley Happy

undefined my laptop seems like this but the processor is i3. I am not sure if this is the exact model of my laptop coz I saw it under, Model: 14-d005TX Product: F9Z51PA#UUF. Where do I find the sound output options? in my NBA game there is no such audio settings. And I don't really notice if the game that I played is running on Directx 11 or Directx 9, but the Prototype game searching for Directx 9 version and it says xaudio2 is missing. Do I really have to download that version? while I have already Directx 11? Thanks for always helping. 🙂
