HP 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-c3000 IDS Base Model
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

LAPTOP display seems washed out.  Did latest updates, also tried color calibrating, but this seemed to be for standalone monitors.  There was no way to adjust a laptop screen.

Reinstalled Microsoft.

Not sure what is going on.

Hi @RWILDIN

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

A washed-out display can be frustrating, especially when standard calibration options don’t seem to help.

Since you've already updated drivers and attempted color calibration, let's explore a few additional steps to improve the display quality.

Steps to Fix Washed-Out Colors on HP 17.3-inch Laptop

Step 1: Adjust Display Settings in Intel/NVIDIA Control Panel

  • If your laptop has Intel Graphics, open Intel Graphics Command CenterDisplayColor Settings.
  • If using NVIDIA, open NVIDIA Control PanelAdjust Desktop Color Settings.
  • Increase Digital Vibrance and adjust Gamma to enhance contrast.

Step 2: Disable Adaptive Brightness

  1. Open Control Panel > Power Options.
  2. Click Change Plan Settings for your active power plan.
  3. Select Change Advanced Power Settings.
  4. Expand Display > Enable Adaptive Brightness and set it to Off.

Step 3: Check Windows HDR Settings

  1. Go to Settings > System > Display.
  2. Scroll down to HDR settings.
  3. If HDR is enabled, try turning it Off to see if colors improve.

Step 4: Perform a Clean Graphics Driver Installation

  1. Download Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU).
  2. Boot into Safe Mode and run DDU to remove all graphics drivers.
  3. Restart and install the latest Intel/NVIDIA drivers from HP’s support page.
  4. Restart again and check display quality.

Step 5: Test with an External Monitor

  • Connect your laptop to an external display.
  • If the external monitor looks fine, the issue may be with the laptop’s built-in panel.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, let me know what results you get, and I can refine the approach further! Hopefully, we can get your display looking sharp again.
