RE: 17-CN0065CL  (laptop)

This laptop runs CDs without a problem, but I have never been able to play movie videos (like from Redbox, Netflix, etc) from it.  After inserting the DVD disk (not a Blu-ray), I heard a sound like it is 'running' (more like searching?) for about 30 seconds - then you hear the player 'shut off/wind down'.  I've tried using the 'auto play' settings using explorer (D: drive) - no different.  The eject button from this same explorer pop-up works fine - so it does, at least, acknowledge its presence.

Hi:

The product specs for the PC you have indicate that it did not come with a DVD drive.

HP Laptop 17-cn0065cl Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support

W10 & W11 do not include the DVD codecs required to play movies on a DVD.

Did you install the DVD software that is required to play DVD's?

If not, you can install the free VLC Media Player from the Microsoft Store and hopefully, you will be able to play DVD movies.

Interesting, Paul!  For the price I paid, and considering I never bought a laptop in the past that did not have a CD drive that did not play DVDs - I'm amazed.  But, I guess you are right.  Well, I went to the Windows Store, downloaded a free DVD player app - and voila,  movies played!  Thanks for enlightening me.  🙂  Buyer beware!
