I am using 2 displays HP 27er with my McBook Pro (OS Monterey 12.6.6). One of the displays suddenly changed its resolution from 1920x1080 (default) to 1280x720 and I cannot change it back to default as it does not show this option in the System Preference's display settings.
Does anybody know what is going on here?
Grateful for any help I can get to resolve this issue...

Hi @Peraza,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP 27er 27-inch display is suddenly changing resolution without any user intervention, there are a few possible reasons and solutions you can try to troubleshoot the issue.
- Driver Issues: Ensure that you have the latest graphics driver installed for your computer's graphics card. Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause resolution problems. Visit the HP website or the website of your graphics card manufacturer to download and install the latest drivers.
- Display Settings: Check your display settings to see if the resolution is set to change automatically. Right-click on your desktop, select "Display Settings," and make sure the resolution is set to your preferred setting. Disable any options related to automatic resolution changes.
- Physical Connection: Check the cables connecting your display to your computer. Ensure they are securely plugged in on both ends. A loose or faulty cable can sometimes cause resolution issues.
- Refresh Rate: Verify that the refresh rate is set to a value supported by your monitor. Setting an incompatible refresh rate can lead to resolution problems. Generally, 60Hz is a safe choice for most displays.
- Operating System Updates: Sometimes, system updates can lead to display-related issues. Check if your operating system has recently received an update, and if the resolution problem started after that, consider rolling back the update or searching for known issues online.
- Interference: Check if there are any other devices or software running on your computer that might be interfering with your display settings. Some applications or background processes may try to change the resolution for specific tasks.
- Hardware Issues: If none of the above steps resolve the problem, there might be a hardware issue with the display itself. If the display is still under warranty, contact HP support for assistance or take it to an authorized service center.
- System Restore: If you recently installed new software or made system changes, you can try performing a system restore to a point before the issue began to see if that resolves the problem.
Always be cautious while making changes to your computer's settings, and make sure you have a backup of important files before performing significant troubleshooting steps.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
