HP 6730b
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP 6730b running windows 10 64-bit. Fully updated Windows.
Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1)

The display is very dim on boot but restarting Windows resolves the problem.

Last Device manager Events shows '\VEN_8086&DEV_2A42&SUBSYS_30DD103C&REV_07\3&b1bfb68&0&10 requires further installation' even after reboot (and display brightness is currently normal).

Tried uninstalling display and letting Windows reinstall on reboot but on next cold boot display is dim again.

Keyboard controls do not seem to make any difference.

Night light etc in windows is turned off, display controls show brightness at 100%.

The only thing that seems to work is to restart Windows.

Any suggestions?

I have the exact issue with my HP 6730b. The only thing that corrects this is rebooting. This first seemed to be an issue right after the Windows 10 April Feature Update.

Yes I think you are right.

I seem to have solved it 9/10 by turning off 'fast start'  (think that's what it is called) under power options.

This also solved a different problem on a different computer too so it must have a major affect on the boot sequence.

Oh I just remembered I also updated the BIOS to the latest F.14.

I had this problem for a few weeks where the screen was dim on boot up only on certain occasions. It turned out to be a large Win 10 update which was not installing on reboot. I just left it on for a few hours with a dim screen and the update eventually installed otherwise you can see the details of the update and do it manually. Once it installed the problem went away.
