Good evening. I have tried every option that works with my laptop to get rid of my touchpad feature. I keep hitting it when I type and ruining my work. Even when I select uninstall and restart, the blasted thing works after restart. I have done it in device manager, there is no disable in my mouse options, I have uninstalled the driver, I have tried to update the driver but it is not supported on my OS. I have double tapped the top left corner of the touchpad. It still works. I really need some help.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Click on Devices.
  3. Click on Touchpad to disbale the function.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I have the same problem you responded to in that I cannot disable my Synaptics SMBus Touchpad.  I do not have the screen you showed in your response, not in device settings ... not anywhere.  I have updated the driver and well as uninstalled it, and of course it reinstalled itself on reboot. I have researched it online and tried every conceivable thing to turn it off and nothing works. It's driving me crazy because just like the previous post it makes typing impossible. I'm running Windows 10 which is up to date along with all device drivers.  Please.... how can I turn it off?

I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. I would suggest performing system factory reset will put the computer back to the original factory settings in this way all corrupted and outdated software will be removed.

While doing the recovery there is an option to backup your personal files. If you have not previously done one now is a good time.

Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows )You can also contact HP support for assistance. They can remotely access your system to help alleviate difficulties: www.hp.com/contacthp/

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
