Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Laptop screen is dim now, brightness controls no longer work on keyboard. No Brighness slider control appears ANYWHERE in Windows no matter what you do or what control center you go to. Battery Plan shows no brightness slider either. Windows has latest update installed a few days ago. No help available anywhere and this topic appears nowhere on the internet. Wasted days on trying to fix this. HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cs3153cl

Hi @Engineer5000,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with the brightness controls on your HP Pavilion laptop. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem.

  • Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix hardware or software glitches. Make sure to restart your laptop and check if the brightness controls work afterward.
  • Check Power Options: Go to "Power & sleep settings" and then click on "Additional power settings." Select your current power plan and click on "Change plan settings." Look for the option to adjust screen brightness. If it's not there, click on "Change advanced power settings," and make sure the "Display" settings are configured correctly.
  • Update Graphics Drivers: Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can cause display issues. Visit the official HP website or use Windows Update to ensure your graphics drivers are up-to-date.
  • Roll Back Graphics Driver: If the issue started after a recent driver update, you might want to roll back to the previous version. Go to "Device Manager," find your display adapter, right-click, and choose "Properties." Under the "Driver" tab, you should see an option to roll back the driver.
  • Check for Windows Updates: Make sure your operating system is up-to-date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and check for updates.
  • BIOS Update: Visit the official HP support website for your laptop model and check if there's a BIOS update available. Sometimes, updating the BIOS can resolve hardware-related issues.
  • Check for Malware: Run a full system scan with your antivirus software to ensure that malware or other security threats are not affecting your system.
  • Use HP Support Assistant: HP provides a tool called HP Support Assistant, which can help you identify and fix common problems. Download and run this tool to see if it can resolve the issue.
  • System Restore: If the problem started after a recent software change, you might consider using System Restore to revert your system to a previous state when the brightness controls were working. Be cautious with this option, as it will undo changes made to the system after the restore point.

Remember to back up important data before making significant changes to your system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
