Hi @Mark_silverster,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
It sounds like you're experiencing screen flickering issues on your HP Pavilion Laptop PC 14-dv1000, and ants might have previously invaded your laptop. Screen flickering can be caused by a variety of issues, including problems with the graphics card, connection cables, or even damage from external factors like ants.
Potential Causes and Solutions
Graphics Card Issue
If the HP service center indicated a problem with the graphics card, it might be causing the screen to flicker. Try updating the graphics drivers to see if it helps:
- Update Graphics Drivers: Open HP Support Assistant, select My PC, click on Updates, and follow instructions to update the graphics drivers.
Connection and Hardware Issues
Since the flickering occurs when you pick up the laptop near the screen, it might also be related to hardware connections:
- Check Connections: Ensure all internal connections are properly seated. This may require opening the laptop, and if you're not comfortable doing this, an HP service center can help.
- Inspect for Physical Damage: If ants were inside your laptop, they might have caused physical damage or short circuits. Ensure there is no visible damage or residue left by the ants.
Other Troubleshooting Steps
- Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve screen issues.
- Check for System Update: Ensure your operating system is up to date.
- Perform a Hard Reset: Turn off the laptop, unplug it, remove connected devices, press and hold the power button for 15 seconds, reconnect everything, and turn it on.
I hope this helps.
