Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing some significant issues with your HP Omen 16 gaming laptop, especially related to display flickering and unexpected shutdowns during high-intensity tasks. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help identify and potentially resolve the problem:
1. Check for Overheating
- Clean Vents and Fans: Dust accumulation can lead to overheating. Use compressed air to clean out the vents and fans.
- Monitor Temperatures: Use software like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to check CPU and GPU temperatures during gameplay. If temperatures are excessively high (above 85°C), overheating may be the issue.
2. Update Graphics Drivers
NVIDIA GeForce Experience (if applicable):
- If you have an NVIDIA GPU, download and install the latest drivers through the GeForce Experience app.
Device Manager:
- Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, right-click on your GPU, and select Update driver.
3. Adjust Power Settings
Open Control Panel:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
Select High Performance:
- Choose the High Performance power plan, which can help improve performance during gaming.
4. Check for Software Conflicts
- Disable any unnecessary background applications or overlays (like Discord or GeForce Experience overlays) that might be causing conflicts during gaming.
5. Run a System Diagnostic
HP Support Assistant:
- Open HP Support Assistant and run any available diagnostic tests, especially for hardware issues.
Windows Memory Diagnostic:
- Type "Windows Memory Diagnostic" in the Start menu and follow the prompts to check for memory issues.
6. Reset the Graphics Settings
- If you're using NVIDIA's Control Panel, set the graphics settings back to default to ensure there are no custom settings causing instability.
7. Check for Windows Updates
- Open Settings:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Install Updates: Ensure your system is fully updated.
8. Check the Display
- If possible, connect your laptop to an external monitor to see if the flickering persists. This will help determine if the issue is with the laptop’s display or the GPU.
9. Reset BIOS Settings
- Access BIOS:
- Restart your laptop and press the appropriate key (usually F10 or Esc) during boot to enter the BIOS.
- Reset to Defaults: Look for an option to reset to default settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
