HI i just bought my new omnibook and when ever the display is on extended mode the display goes black if a video plays. So any app like sky, netflix, disney or even a simple video playing in apple music causes the screen to go black and non responsive.
The only solution is to go back to the single view on the laptop and kill the app.
I have checked the machine for driver updates and windows updates and all is up to date.
The docking station had worked fine on my older hp laptop.

Hi @Ciaran1975, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP OmniBook X 14 AI PC is experiencing a display issue when using an extended screen setup, specifically when playing videos. Since your docking station worked fine with your older HP laptop, the issue might be driver-related, hardware compatibility, or power settings.
Troubleshooting Steps:
Check Display & Graphics Settings
- Right-click on the desktop → Select Display settings.
- Scroll down to Multiple Displays → Set "Extend these displays" (if not already).
- Go to Advanced display settings → Ensure both displays are running at a compatible refresh rate (e.g., 60Hz).
- Check HDR settings under "Windows HD Color settings"—disable it temporarily and test.
Update GPU Drivers (Even If Up to Date)
- Open Device Manager (Win + X → Device Manager).
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click Intel Graphics (or NVIDIA, if applicable) → Select Update driver → Search automatically.
- If the issue persists, go to the HP Support website and manually download the latest graphics and chipset drivers for your model.
Adjust Power Settings
- Open Control Panel → Power Options.
- Click Change plan settings → Change advanced power settings.
- Expand PCI Express → Link State Power Management, and set it to Off.
- Expand Graphics Settings and set it to Maximum Performance.
Disable Hardware Acceleration
Some apps may conflict with GPU acceleration, causing black screens:
- Edge/Chrome:
- Go to Settings → System → Disable Use hardware acceleration when available.
Test with a Different Monitor / Docking Station Port
- Try directly connecting the monitor to the laptop using HDMI/USB-C.
- Switch to a different port on the docking station.
- Test with a different external monitor.
Change Video Playback Settings
- Open Settings → Apps → Video Playback.
- Disable Automatically process video to enhance it.
- Toggle Battery options to Optimize for performance.
Check for BIOS Updates
- Go to HP Support → Search for HP OmniBook X 14-fe0000.
- Download and install the latest BIOS update (if available).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
