Recently, my display has started to go haywire, flickering and scrolling with vertical lines.  I have tried uninstalling the device driver and reinstalling, to no effect.

 

Are there any suggestions I can check out to try and resolve the issue

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues with the display on your computer.

 

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

 

I recommend you update the BIOS and the graphics driver from the below link and check whether the issue is resolved.

If you continue facing the issue, then boot to BIOS by tapping continuously the F10 key while restarting the computer and check whether you can duplicate the issue in the BIOS screen.

Hey Foss, I have another problem with my display, that has been going on for about a year. When the machine goes into hibernation, it has images of prior sessions displayed, that appear to enlarge over time. I wouldn't worry about it, but I do development work, and one of the images is a screen from my IDE, which could potentially pose a security concern.

 

I don't know if I should open a new issue, but since you did such a good job on the haywire issue, I thought I'd run it by you first.

Hey, well it's back.  Could it possibly be that the machine isn't getting the proper power input?  Several months ago, I tripped on the cord and the machine landed on the power supply tip, bending it.  I was able to get it bent back into shape, but there must have been a bad connection in the tip, because the power supply eventually stopped working.  I just replaced the power supply, but I could only find one that was compatible.  It is putting 150 watts just like OEM supply, but could it be delivering the power at a level?

 

PS:  The flickering problem seems to only occur when I wake the machine up.  It continues for a few minutes and stops.  It's driving me nuts trying to figure out what the problem is, lol.

Follow the below steps and check if it helps.

 

Press ‘Win + I’ shortcut keys to open Windows Settings app.

Click on ‘Update & Security’, then go to the ‘Troubleshoot’ section from the left-side menu.

Scroll downwards a bit and click on the ‘Power’ option.

Click on ‘Run the Troubleshooter’. It will start detecting the problems and if it founds, go ahead fixing it.

 

If you continue facing the issue, then follow the below steps.

 

On your keyboard, press ‘Windows key + R’ and type ‘Powercfg.cpl’ in it.

Hit the ‘Enter’ key to open power options in the control panel.

From the left-hand side, click on ‘Choose what the power buttons do’.

Then, click on the link ‘Change settings that are currently unavailable’.

From the bottom given power button options, uncheck the ‘Turn on fast startup’ option.

Click on ‘Save changes’ button.

 

If the issue persists, follow the below steps.

 

Go to the ‘Start’ menu and type ‘Control panel’ then hit the ‘Enter’ key.

From the top-right filter, choose ‘Large icons’ and navigate to the ‘Power Options’,

Click and open the ‘Power options’.

Select the power plan according to your requirement and click on ‘Change plan settings’.

Click on ‘Change advanced power settings’.

In the power options windows, click on the button ‘Restore plan defaults’.

Click on ‘Apply’ and then ‘OK’ button.
