Just purchased this laptop an powered it up three days ago. Right out of the box before touching anything he display seemed "washed out" immediately upon start-up. This phenomenon persists no matter how the brightness is adjusted. Screen is the: Optional15.6" diagonal FHD SVA anti-glare micro-edge WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080). This laptop sits right next to another HP laptop that is less than one year old and the difference is remarkable. I have tried all the usual and nothing corrects it. It is not sharp and definitely affects the HD image with video. If this cannot be corrected, it will be going back to HP.
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to HP Community
I have gone through your Post and would like to help
I suggest you check in the BIOS if the display looks washed out
Shut down the Notebook and upon restarting keep tapping on F10 till you see System Configuration Menu ( BIOS )
If the display looks fine in BIOS, I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...
HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook
-
Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
-
Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
-
Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
-
Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
-
Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.
Also ensure Windows is up to date.
Select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available
Keep me posted how it goes
Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊

Thank you KrazyToad. I have completed all of the steps and checks as you suggested: Start to Bios screen, Windows Update and ran the HP Assistant again (I had already previously). All drivers up to date and as well as windows update. No change in the screen appearance. Please note that lowering the brightness does not change the appearance of the "washed-out" effect.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can try. Thank you,

Want to add that this link shows several Intel updates available (bluetooth, wi-fi drivers and RST user interface) for my device after it auto-scanned. These don't appear to be related to the display and I have not downloaded them. Can you advise if should I download and apply these drivers?
Thank you

Try downloading the Intel Support Assistant and it will search for the best driver for your Intel Graphics Card

See previous apply above: HP Assistant shows laptop is up to date/no updates available updates. Ran it again just now: no change: LP up to date. Thank you. Anything else to suggest to fix the screen? The appearance is as if I cranked the brightness all the way up and increased it another three or four clicks of the bright buke

Please see my entry from 4/4/20 previous. I have performed all of the steps suggested: including boot into BIOS. The problem persists. It looks the same in the Bios screen. If, there are no other steps or options to try please advise on how to proceed with returning my laptop for replacement or return for refund. Thank you
