OMEN by HP - 15-dc0096nd
Microsoft Windows 11

Helle Everyone,

Currently i have a Omen 15 from a few years back, and from the beginning i had display issues (brand new out of the box).
This was solved every time by installing new drivers and sometimes the BIOS.

But for a few weeks now (hadn't had much time to work on it) it has the problem that:
1. My internal laptop screen stays black (i suspect a hardware issue)
2. My attached screen goes black a few seconds after installing drivers

The attached screen problem is the most annoying, what i do is uninstall the current video driver. I then restart my PC and after a few seconds (on automatic driver download) my screen goes black again and stays that way. My screen is only black in normal mode, safe mode is where i can use my screen again (hence the suspicion that it is a driver issue which i just cannot solve).

For now i have tried:
1. Installing new drivers (in both safe and normal mode)
2. Installing new BIOS
3. Clean install of both Windows 10 and Windows 11
4. Full OS, Virus and System scan

One side note, on clean install it doesn't detect my video card automatically (Nvidia GeForce 1060).

Does anyone have the same problem, or could help me to a resolution.

Thanks in advance, and for taking the time to even look thru my message!

Hello Ub6424,

Currently i' m running in to some trouble.

1. Every time i initiate BIOS setup and reboot it displays a different blue screen.
2. I can't update my windows + optional drivers because i only can use the safe mode.

I' m currently running sfc /scannow and dism to see if there are any corrupts on my laptop.

I will report results.

Hello Ub6424,

No results, sfc comes out clean, dism has run no result.

When i try to run the bios update with
1. Safe mode with networking -> bsod every time

2. Safe mode (plain) -> literally just doesn't do anything, on reboot just starts to windows where i don't get any screen.

Hello Ub6424,

I have managed to pull it off, how?

Via safe mode i have turned off Device Installation Setup:

Then via DDU i have uninstalled all drivers.
When Windows 11 booted normally i succesfully installed Bios F18.
And i have installed all available windows updates.

But whatever display driver i install from nvidea causes the external screen to go black and stay black.
Also the internal display still doesn't work (not that important as long as the external screen works)

This is just thermal paste which can be carefully cleaned with isopropanol (or nail polish remover). Disconnect charger and battery before doing this... Then thermal paste on CPU and GPU should be renewed ...

Kind regards

Well...

That isn't thermal paste, i have changed the thermal paste for liquid metal about a year ago because my laptop got really bad temperatures.

About 3-4 months ago my laptop screen stopped working, but hadnt been able to repair it because of my study / work.

But still thanks for the help...
