Do all HP Envy x360s have terrible webcams? This one is brand new, but camera is fuzzy and grainy

HP Recommended
HP Envy x360 15-ee0xxx
Microsoft Windows XP

i just bought a brand new HP Envy x360 15-ee0xxx , and am dismayed to find  that the webcam quality is awful. Porous, grainy,  with huge pixels (if that's the right word) very poor definition, coarse and oddly colored.

I was intending to use it to Zoom this winter, I have been using a webcam on my PC, which is fine, but confined to a small office not lit well enough for Zooming on dark days. I have an Ipad from probably 2011 I have used and a Chromebook, also older, all of which have far far better webcams.. clear, good color, sharp pictures. I am pleased to see that I can finally get a virtual background on this device, but the picture quality is horrible.  Is this a fault of all HP laptops, or just all Envy x 360s or just a defect unique to this particular device?    We chose it after looking at reviews over other models, other mfrs... but I don't recall any reviewer shouting out about the horrid webcam quality. Surely at this point in time, one of the more important qualities a laptop must have is a finely functioning webcam.

Has anyone had the same experiences, or is this a defect of just this one computer, and if so, something that can be adjusted or is it just a lemon?

I checked several of the Specification sheets for this series - all that I checked indicate this model comes with webcam:

HP Wide Vision 720p HD camera with camera shutter and integrated dual array digital microphone

Not horrible - also not top-of-line IR camera, either.

Side Bar - Unsolicited information

I have a 720p webcam of this type in my 2016 Zbook- the camera is adequate and does work with Zoom.

Note:  I do have adequate lighting options in the home office in which I use the system.

I checked a few of the models Envy 15-eexxx series at the HP Store.

The series appears to be a semi-modest convertible laptop in the "under $1000" range.

Not the bottom and not near top-of-line.

Should be OK.

So, what to do?

Assuming the webcam is adequate, provide more lighting in your office / room.

No electricity?  Try a battery operated table lamp - the LED type do not burn a lot of battery power and might be adequate for most "average length" meetings.

What else?

If you believe the webcam is actually defective - not working correctly for what it is,

After you have done what you can do (drivers, testing, that sort of thing),

I have just found the same - mine is also very grainy and definitely not what I would except for a device such as this.

Did you manage to improve the quality at all?
