Hi

I have just bought an Envy 15 x360 Ryzen 4700u Laptop (15-ee0504na). I'm currently driving two QHD (1440p) screens from this laptop, one via displayport over USB and one via the HDMI port on the laptop. This works fine, but I would ideally like to move to a single socket solution over USB C.

I have done some research and it seems that docking station compatibility is a bit of a minefield with these laptops and that there is no recommended HP solution for driving multiple monitors and providing power delivery. I do note the following specifications on my USB-C port which seem to suggest single port docking should be possible:

  • Displayport 1.4 (should be capable of 2x 4k monitors at 60hz, I believe this means the USB C does support Displayport Alt mode)
  • 10gb/s data transfer
  • 100w Power delivery

I had a look at the solutions on offer and it looks to me like the Hp Dock G5 should be compatible as its is one of the few docks around that supports Displayport 1.4. Despite this, the internet is full of confusing and often contradictory info over whether this will work with the laptop. Would anyone be able to advise if this would work or if my requirements are event possible?

Thanks for your help!

In case anyone is googling the same question as me and wants an update. The G5 dock works just fine with the Envy x360. I now have one and am able to run my mouse, keyboard, ethernet and 2x1440p monitors without a hitch along with 100w power delivery which is more than suffienct for the laptop. Even the power button on the dock works which I didn't expect.

Not quite sure why this had to be so confusing really.

Thank you for this update!

I'm trying to find a dock where the power button works for my Envy x360 13 - the HP G4 did not work.  Well, all the functions except the power button work.

Could you possibly check your bios to see if you have any settings about power on via usb or dock in there?  I don't - the bios is pretty locked down - but if your bios is similar (as the rest of the system specs are basically the same) then I'm hopeful that the G5 might work for me.

Thanks!

Just had a quick look in the BIOS and didn't see anything relating to power or charging there. Not an expert in these things though, it just worked out the box for me.
