I understand that the USB-C on this model laptop does not support power, but can it still support the external displays and audio?

Hi @rdkimball35

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Your HP 17 Laptop PC 17-cp3000 (B03B8AV) does include a USB-C port, but unfortunately, it does not support video output or DisplayPort Alt Mode, which is required for external displays and audio passthrough via the HP USB-C Dock G5. That’s why even though the dock powers up, your laptop won’t transmit display or audio signals through it.

What You Can Use Instead

Since your USB-C port lacks video support, your best bet is a DisplayLink-based docking station, which uses USB-A or USB-C for connectivity and handles video/audio through software drivers.

Recommended Alternative:

  • HP Universal USB-C/A Dock G2
  • Connects via USB-A or USB-C
  • Supports dual external monitors via DisplayLink
  • Compatible with your laptop model

Just make sure to install the DisplayLink drivers from HP or DisplayLink.com for full functionality.
