HP Laptop 15- dy1751ms
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to connect my 2020 HP Laptop 15 to my Apple monitor (not iMac, but monitor only). The output on my Apple monitor is a mini-display port and USB-2. I have a "Mini-display port to USB-C" connector so it can connect to the USB-C and the USB-2 from the monitor goes to the USB-3 on my HP Laptop. I get audio on my monitor speaker (presumably from the USB-2 to USB-3)...but no video from the USB-C to mini-display port connection. Questions are: Does my HP Laptop 15 USB-C support video? And or, would a HDMI from my laptop to an "HDMI to mini-display port connector" to connect video to my Apple monitor from the laptop be better? Thank you.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

After reading your post, I did go through the Product specifications of your product and found that you have 1 HDMI 1.4b; 1 headphone/microphone combo; 1 USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 (Data Transfer up to 5 Gb/s); 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Data transfer only); 1 AC smart pin installed on the PC.

USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 (Data Transfer

  • To get the answer to this question, The USB 3.1 Type-C supports only Data Transfer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thank you for the answer here...I've read several other posts that said the USB-C does support video but I take your answer that the one on my laptop does not.

Therefore, I still have the question of how to get video output from this HP laptop.

So my new question is: Would the HDMI slot from my laptop to an "HDMI to mini-display port connector" to connect video to my Apple monitor from the laptop be better?

Thanks for your continued assistance...

@Spacerox

Thank you for posting back.

To get the answer to this question, the Display Port signal is not compatible with HDMI, however with an adapter, the DisplayPort can send display devices with VGA, DVI, or HDMI, the most commonly Mac monitors commonly use the DisplayPort or Thunderbolt connector types.

All you need is Mac to PC monitor converter and Mac monitor cable
