 I need to extend the desktop over three displays (internal plus 2 external), not duplicate the two external displays.

Do you think using an HDMI splitter on the laptop's HDMI port could be a workaround ? I've read the capability of a single HDMI port to support 2 external displays with different content depends on the graphic card, not the port itself.

I use a HDMI splitter because I don't have enough HDMI ports on my TV.

 

However, with the splitter I use (and maybe all of them?) I have to press a button to select the HDMI source.

I recommend you start a new post because I don't know what your options are, if any.
