I want to connect an external monitor to my son's chromebook. I bought a VGA to USB connector cable but when I select the settings and navigate to the display options it does not give me the option to mirror the built-in display. Do I need a USB-C connection instead? what are other solutions?

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues connecting an external monitor to the computer using a USB to VGA adapter.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
Do you have a USB 3.0 port on the computer?
You will have to try many different cables before you find one that works.
Mirroring will be a problem, because the Chromebook and the monitor must have matching resolutions. If you have a 16:9 screen on your Chromebook, that will be a problem unless you can manually select a matching resolution on the monitor.
I hope that answers your question and you have a great day!
