HP Recommended

I have a HP monitor EliteDisplay E231. The monitor is connected in a Dock station of HP laptop with PORT DISPLAY from Monitor to Dock station. it works perfectly. 

Recently aquired a 2nd laptop from LENOVO. I purchased a cable being PORT DISPLAY one side and connected to monitor and HDMI the other end to connect directly to LENOVO laptop. Monitor is not connected, is not detected.

Anyone that can support why this may happen?
