Hello,
I recently saw fit to upgrade my HP EliteBook 840 G3 from 1366x768 to 2560x1440. The original vendor told me the device was 1080p but it was not. To upgrade I bought a QHD LED screen and a new eDP cable with 40pins because the 30pins eDP cable only works with resolutions upto 1080p.
Now the computer boots but the screen glows black. I can get the computer to boot normally if I connect to an external screen via the the display port but only if I remove the eDP cable from the motherboard first. I presume from the sounds that the computer is booting correctly while the display is black.
How can I tell if the problem is with the screen or the eDP LED cable? I've noticed that the with my replacement 40pin eDP cable, there is no clicking noise when I connect to the motherboard but there is when I use the 30pin eDP cable. Other users have successfully upgraded from 1366x768 to 2560x1440.

It was indeed a faulty eDP cable. I had to wait a while but the upgrade worked. This thread should be marked as solved.
