Elitebook 850G2
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
I purchased the Philips BDM4065UC monitor to go with my new Elitebook 850G2.  Before purchasing the 850G2, I verified it supports 3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz on the DisplayPort output to a secondary monitor. (   Page 7. )  The Philips BDM4065UC also supports 3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz refresh rate in its Specs.

I have the BDM4065UC external monitor connected to the 850G2 DisplayPort output. The computer is running Windows 10, 64 bit.  The Intel HD Graphics 5500 is running driver version 20.19.15.4300.  The BDM4065UC is the only external monitor connected to the notebook, using a VESA CERTIFIED: DisplayPort 1.2 compliant cable, 1 meter in length, directly to the BDM4065UC.

The Graphics Properties in the computer show the BDM4065UC is operating at 3840 x 2160 @ 30 Hz. Other refresh rates are available, but they are lower. There are no rates higher than 30 Hz.  How do I enable the 60 Hz refresh rate that both the computer and monitor support?

I received information from Philips on this.  There are two parts to the solution.

First, the monitor defaults to DisplayPort 1.1 out of the box, which does not support 60 Hz at 4K resolution.

In the monitor's menu - Select Setup - Select Display Port - Select 1.2.

This will cause Windows to "freak out" and both displays to flash off and on.  I had to unplug the external monitor to get control back on the notebook's screen.

Then Restart the computer, and plug the monitor back into DisplayPort

Then you will see 60 Hz has become available on the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel.  However, you can't set it there - the monitor will just blink on and off for a couple minutes, and go back to 30 Hz.

Instead:

- Right click on the desktop and select Display Settings
- Click on Advanced Display Settings
- Click on Display Adapter Properties
- Click on list all modes and scroll down to the 60hz option and apply it.

You will get the "confirm display settings" dialog, and then it will be running at 60 Hz.
