I recently noticed that the auto rotate function had stopped working on my Elitebook x360 1030 G4. After checking on the internet, I downloaded and applied all the updates available through HP Support Assistant.
On restarting the system, it went through it's normal boot process, but as soon as it got to the login screen (just after the clock screen), the screen went blank/black. Obviously, I couldn't enter in the password so forced a shut down holding the power button. Restarted again, and the same thing happened. Blank/black screen at login.
After a few attempts with the same result, I tried to repair the windows installation, but the process wasn't able to fix the windows issue.
Next step, a clean install of Windows 11 23H2 build 22631.4169. Applied all the Microsoft updates, downloaded Support Assistant and installed all the recommended updates again. Once completed and rebooted, same thing happened. Black/Blank screen at login stage.
So, to isolate the problem, I did another fresh install and applied all the Microsoft updates. After which I downloaded HP Support Assistant and applied each suggested update individually (and rebooted after each individual update). It turns out that the issue is being caused by the Intel Sensor Hub Components Driver for CFL (sp99908.exe).
From my knowledge, this driver is required for auto screen rotation. I'm assuming there isn't a problem with the sensor itself as it's listed in device manager but with an exclamation mark next to it. I'm now in a position where the driver doesn't seem to work (and causes issues) and can't think of what my next step would be to resolve this.
I've tried a couple of other sensor drivers, but I just get the message "platform not supported"
Any ideas?
