I want to connect an external monitor but having seen support issues reporting this doesn't work as expected I wanted to ask for advice.

What I have read is that the USB type C sockets are not Tunderbolt enabled and therefore cannot drive an HDMI connection.  I've read some people have worked around this by switching to VGA but obviously this drops the quality.  Looking at the tech specs I can see 'DP1.2' listed against the USB type C sockets. Does this mean they support Display Port?

To put my question another way, what options do I have for connecting an external monitor other than using VGA?

@jafwatt

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand, you're trying to connect an external monitor to your notebook,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,

As per specs https://hp.care/2IqpTby, I see that your notebook has one HDMI port and you could connect using HDMI cable.

Hope this helps,

Have a great day 🙂

Cheers 🙂

You're looking at the wrong model.

My 13-ad013na definitely does not have an HDMI port.

@jafwatt

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

As per specs, your notebook support USB Type C connectivity to an external monitor: https://hp.care/2rRVclh

If you have a monitor with Type C port, you can connect directly but if you don't have the monitor with the Type C port, you could use a converter.

Hope this helps,

Cheers 🙂

I've never seen a monitor that used a USB port for input. Only DVI, HDMI or VGA.

I don't mean to be rude but you don't seem very knowledgeable, refering me to the wrong model and then talking about monitor connectivity that I've never seen.

 Here's an example of somebody saying the laptop doesn't support external displays without an adatper:
